Voyages of Ocean Explorer
2003 - Into the St. Lawrence Estuary & Back
In the spring and summer of 2003, Donna and I took Ocean Explorer into saltwater for the first time. We left our home port of Manitowoc, Wisconsin on May 13 and traveled on down through the Great Lakes to the St. Lawrence River, and then down the river to the St. Lawrence Estuary as far east as Rimouski, Quebec. We then brought Ocean Explorer back up the St. Lawrence River and back to Manitowoc, returning on August 13. It had been our plan to take OE out to the Maritime Provinces and winter the boat in Nova Scotia, but an unexpected problem prevented us from doing so.
We visited the cities of Montreal and Quebec City, and visited many smaller communities along the way. A major highlight was the Saguenay River Fjord to the east of Quebec City. This is a spectacularly scenic area which is visited by a dozen species of whales in considerable number.
We present our HAM radio log and Donna's photographs. We hope you will enjoy them.
