2006 - A Cruise to the Western Part of

the North Channel with a new Crewmember

Introduction

Due to the death of Donna's mother in the early part of the summer of 2006, Donna and I delayed our cruising until August.  Having only a shortened period of time available, we thought it might be a good time to bring our oldest grandchild, Tristan, with us.  With the gracious consent of his parents, Tristan joined us for the month.  Now, we were not too sure how this would go.  Tristan was eight and a half years old.  We had heard stories of some successes taking children this age, but we had also heard of some disasters.  Well, let me tell you that, in this case, it was a total success.  We thoroughly enjoyed the trip, Tristan enjoyed the trip, and Tristan became a first-class, enthusiastic crewmember in the process.  He became an excellent engineer, helmsman, line handler, and sail tender.  He was routinely skipper of the dinghy on our excursions to shore.  In summary, it was a great experience for us and, I think, one which he will remember for the rest of his life.  We all hope that we get to do it again.  Join us as we describe the trip.
