Striped Shore Crab- Pachygrapsus Crassipes

This cautious and agile crab inhabits a wide range and can be found throughout the harbor. It can sometimes be seen on the bottom of the upper harbor and readily seen crawling outside the water at low tide, foraging algae. Its ability to move fast and fit into small crevices, coupled with good eyesight help it survive in vulnerable places. They graze on various algaes, scavenge for items floating around, and even hunt for meatier meals. Their abundance in the harbor, make them a good source of protein for local racoons whose tiny hands can sometimes reach into their small hiding places.
