Skeleton Shrimp - Caprella Species
These small critters are only about an inch long and are easily overlooked. When you look closely at them they look like a human skeleton, as they stand upright, in the water with their appendages stretched out, like arms, reaching for food. They can gather in extraordinary numbers if the conditions are right. As a diver, you don’t want to bump into them or they’ll hitch a ride on your wetsuit. They have developed strong claws for grasping, and can be very difficult to remove. It can sometimes feel like you just got back from a hike, in the field, and have burrs all over your clothes. Not a great way to end a dive.
