Sunburst Anemone

Many creatures look the same in the ocean. Sea stars, fish, anemones and even plants can look alike. When we explore and look closer we learn there are small but important differences making each animal different. Two scientists, Vicki Pearse and Lisabeth Francis looked closer, at this anemone than anyone had before. They saw that it was different, from the Aggregate anemone. It was once thought that these were the same kind of animal, but they discovered they’re different. The rule is, if you discover a new animal, then you get to name it. They called it the sunburst anemone or in scientific terms, Anthopleura sola.
